I have two adopted mutts in quarantine. They are my first experience with adult chickens. I have a white mix and a golden colored one. The white one has been laying thin shelled eggs, since I got her a little over a week ago, and if I do not get to her quick enough she'll start eating it. Two days ago the white one went into the nesting box and all seemed normal. Suddenly, after about 30 min, the gold one started "screaming" like she was "sounding the alarm". When I went to see what the issue was I saw the white one laid an egg and had just started to peck at it. Today, I'm in the office (I work from home) I hear the gold one "sounding the alarm" so I go out and the white bird was in the nesting box getting ready to lay.

Perhaps I am humanizing the birds but what are the chances the gold one is alerting me that the white one is about to lay??? When I got to the edge of the run the gold one shut up immediately. Am I smoking crack or what??? Keep in mind the gold bird is the quieter of the two birds.

Opinions please...

I don't know what to tell you, except

I believe the gold hen's name should be "Tattletail"!

My RIR Alabama is extremely territorial over the nesting boxes and if she is in the coop and someone else goes in them, she will scream bloody murder. Perhaps your goldie is a little protective
