Straw or hay?

Where do you get pine shavings? I'm a little worried, as we got our girls from a feed store an hours drive from our home. Not looking forward to running out of feed when there is snow and ice on the ground.

When it comes to using hay or straw, I was always told to use straw for bedding and hay to feed. Something about the hay harboring more mold and biting critters than the straw. Every farmer I've ever encountered says the same thing. Just some advice

I use pine in the brooder, the run, and the coop. Was considering straw but having a hard time finding some locally for some reason. The pine does a really good job.

Just a suggestion - hay should really never be used for bedding (it molds easily), STRAW is what you want to use; if you are choosing between the two.
