Well they are the invasive species. They are not discriminating. Mice and rats are a small percentage of all the wildlife they kill. Around here they take rabbits, skinks, frogs and a plethora of birds including endangered species.
Get your cats indoors where they belong.

Ferals are not cats you bring in. Many places have working cat programs for these cats. I have a couple around here and they don't bother anything. The neighbor feeds them well. . A couple years ago there was a stray rooster and cat, they slept together. For some reason they got along great. My own personal cats are indoor only. Had a mouse in the house and they just watched Trun back and forth.

I have 3 cats, the flock follows one around when it's outside, they ignore the second one and run from the third. The third cat loves to chase the flock but strictly for sport, he has learned that they can and will fight back.

Every person in the United States other than native Americans is an invasive species if you want to look at it that way. Same as dogs, horses, cattle.

Birds generally do not crap on our stuff. Raccoons, skunks, wildlife, etc, is fenced off. Most native wildlife I can keep out of my yard with the fences we put up. We live in the middle of the city, and unfortunately, I can reach out and shake hands with the neighbors. I have a small yard (30 ' x 30') that I like to keep impeccable. If I lived out in the country with tons of acreage, I would feel very differently. But I don't, I'm not lucky enough or rich enough to be able to afford that. Plus, cats are not native or natural to the USA, so you cannot say 'it's nature'. Cats are an invasive species that we brought in as pets. But, since you live in the country, out far away from everyone, your cats are probably not bugging the neighbors in the first place.

Chickens are an invasive species that invading Europeans brought here also.

We have quit a few stay cats around. In fact one likes to go into the coop at night to get out of the weather. None have ever harmed my girls. I have four mousers myself.

I absolutely agree. That's why I don't harass raptors, foxes, reptiles, etc.. And my cats stay indoors.

And there are way too many of us for a planet to sustain.

There is a stray cat wondering around our street lately and he or she comes into our yard sometimes and then I chase it away. Should I be more careful about it or do something else? I am afraid that the cat will get into the coop or run when I am not there.
Any advice is appreciated!!!

Chase that cat away in the meanest way you can!!! I was kind to a stray cat, gently shooing it away for 2 days...the third day, I had to leave for a couple of hours and the cat killed one of my 5 week old pullets. When it came back around a month or so ago, I made it very clear that the cat was not welcome. I haven't seen it since, but I keep my eyes open.....don't get me wrong, i'm an animal lover, I like cats, but I need my chickens for eggs!

I was kind to a stray cat, gently shooing it away for 2 days...the third day, I had to leave for a couple of hours and the cat killed one of my 5 week old pullets. I forgot to mention, my chicks were in with two momma hens that went broody together and hatched the chicks and the cat was still able to kill the chick, though it couldn't get out of the pen with the chick. I hope the hens gave that cat the worst beating of it's life!

I like this though I know my broodies really kick things hard even the dogs are afraid of them and we do not have small dogs.
