Stray cat...?

Seems tooo many peeps here would like to treat stray cats like an enemy. All my cats in my Avatar are feral rescues. They don't bother my chickens. They live outdoors and have a safe garage they can enter for the night. I have them ALL neutered/spayed, and do provide food and water always. They in turn provide my grounds, mouse and rat free environment.

I agree with caveman. I have 2 cats who stay outside during the day and keep my barn mice and rat free. Cannot do rat poison for fear the wrong animal might get into it. Much rather have my cats patrolling my barn and basement. I also spay and neuter, vac and rabies shots. No rodents since I got them.

These cats are awesome. They really kill all nuisance pests. I am so happy you have one too.

They don't limit their killing to nuisance pests.
That's the problem some just don't want to understand.

My cat doesn't bother my chickens and will sit in the coop and gets locked in at night sometimes. He's only interested in small rodents and things he can play with. So chicks are fair game to him so I have to be careful to keep chicks in a covered pen for about 6 months. Which is about how long I dare to add them to the grown chickens safely anyway. He's not fixed and I've had him 2 years. He was a feral cat when I got him but was young. He catches any and all small rodents, even moles and squirrels. I think he even caught a coon which I found next to my deck.

That is one really cool thing about cats, the keep the rodents away and have no problem doing so.

We have feral cats around here and they don't seem to cause any problems plus they eat all the air cleaner plugging mice. Over time they have become stronger and more wild through natural selection. Most are gray with some being orange. Every now and then we well see a kitten running around. They have become basically wild animals and I enjoy watching them. We live in a vary farm like area and most people anticipate having cat poop and animal poop in general when moving out here it's just part of farm life. I have never had one go after a chicken but they will go after chicks if the chicks are left alone for long enough. But in my eyes it's not good idea leaving your chicks alone if don't want them to die. Mine are older now and can fly 10ft + so I'm not to worried.

I'm just fortunate my neutered monster pretty much sticks to possums and rats. We have not found any other of his kills left out as presents for us. Over 12 years he has only killed like 4 or 5 birds the last one was a mercy kill and couldn't fly anyway with a hard growth under its chin. I'm no better than the cat I have hit a few in the car over the years.

Neutering him will not harm those instincts, but could do a lot to control the feral population. Actually, fixing him will help to keep him on your property vs roaming.

Possums !! Baby's right? . I can't see a cat going after an adult possum?. I struggled killing one with a shovel. Their skin is made of leather . A cat the eats possums would be a beneficial animal to have around . WIll Save me a bunch of time. If it does kill adults it must be a big cat.
