Had my first chicken scare today. My chickens have a play pen run right now, they are only 5 weeks old. We have a 10x10x6 pen in the works it just isn't done yet. My hubby went out to check on them and a stray cat was after them. They were a little scared but ok, no one was hurt. Thank god. Now I am afraid to leave them outside by themselves. Looks like I will be trapping a cat or my hubby will be shooting it. I really hate to hurt an animal but it isn't going to get my babies. Guess I need to find a way to keep them away from my chicks, thought the dogs would take care of it but it wasn't scared of them at all.

Usually full grown LF chickens are not very vulnerable to cats. The hens may teach the cat some manners.
But your silkies are more at risk, because they are smaller birds usually. And being small and young make them a potential cat snack. Keep an eye on them when they are out.

Imp- good luck
