Stray Rooster

Pics
Just a small update on Ralphie the Rooster. He’s been with the gals for a bit over two weeks now. It seems most are adjusting during the day but still do not appreciate his morning sexual assaults 😂 They tend to stay in the coop longer in the morning because of this. He tells them when to go to bed at night, they used to stay out until last light but now it’s earlier. I love his crow…during the day, he still starts at 4am and stops when we wake up around 6 🙄
Glad that all is going well! On the morning routine, that's fairly normal, unfortunately. It sounds like he's being a pretty good rooster so far though!

How is everyone settling in? Still doing well?
All is well with him it seems. It’s been a month now. A couple of the gals are still resistant to his “love” 😂 but getting there. Not sure if you saw my other post about a new hen? 😩 She just showed up too. Not sure if she knows the rooster. It was the same situation with her hanging around where mine free range. So after days of her not leaving, I let her in. I just hope my softness doesn’t come back to bite me. I’m monitoring them now too. After this I have zero room for more strays. 😔 Thanks for checking in!

I wonder if they're from the same house. Like a neighbor that let them range and they got lost in the woods or something. Hopefully they weren't dumped, but I know some people dump critters just because they can.

You know I thought the same thing even when the rooster showed up. Another reason I waited to let them in, thinking at night they’d go home. I mean chickens go home at night right? I didn’t want to steal anyone’s birds but they were not safe. I posted on the only local website I have (Nextdoor) no one came forward. Sadly if there are more, I cannot take them in.

They usually go where they know to roost, but if they're new birds and weren't homed properly they can sometimes wander away from the group. I've let newbies range with the flock and they follow the others well enough but some were a few crayons short of a 48 count and would wander off to roost on the chain link fencing.

If you've posted them online though that's all you can do. If nobody came forward to claim there's a big chance they were dumped just depending on where you're at.

He's not an "Americana" which is just a fancy name for an Easter Egger, or he would have a pea comb, not that huge glorious single one he has. You may have been thinking "Ameraucana," which is a different breed altogether - but he would still have had a pea comb. He certainly fills the eye, doesn't he?

Oh my goodness! Another one! I'll have to check out your other thread this evening. I hope nobody else shows up. No doubt she heard through the rooster grapevine about the superior care he's getting and wanted to join. Ralphie must be spreading the word with his morning crowing 🐓 🤣

That’s funny, sometimes they seem smart and other times completely bird brained 😂 We live in a rural community. Everyone has 2-5 acres or more. Most are completely fenced in like us, so you really can’t go door to door. However I didn’t post flyers or anything 🤔

Someone said Andalusian, seems to match up from what I read online anyway. Or at least mixed.
