Stray Rooster

My guess is someone dropped them off in your community hoping someone would give them a new home.Possibly someone who lost their place and had to get rid of them. That would explain why the hen and rooster get along so well.

Thanks for that information. The only way I’d be able to quarantine him is to let him in my property out of the girl’s area to roam, no coop etc. he will not let me approach yet, maybe I’ll gain his trust. As far as asking neighbors, most people are completely fenced in so you cannot get to their home, like me. I’d hope no one abandoned him but there are cruel people 😔 Maybe he will go home to roost tonight and if he’s back tomorrow I’ll have to make a decision. He’s gorgeous though.
People in my area abandon them often. In the woods around here they don't last long. I have had two wander up to our area so far.

I have a beautiful extra rooster if anyone near smith mountain Va would give him a good home. One of my hens wanted to sit, which she does every year. I let her have two eggs this time. Only one hatched. It was him. His name is Baby cause he had no siblings and I wasn't sure for awhile what he was. So he was dubbed the baby. The big legs gave it away. He is a split black, from Wyandotte Roo and lavender orpington hen. He is a iridescent, rose comb, beautiful.

So I became his mom after his mom said, ok thats enough.
If I walk in the woods (right next to us), he goes with me and follows me back home. He has to stay out of the big area with the girls and his Dad.
I let him roam around outside the pen. He has an apartment with a door. LOL So he comes inside his apartment at night.

I hope you can give that guy a home. I hate to see people not take responsibility for what they have, buy etc. Maybe you can make up for it. But as others said, if you can somehow herd him into a make shift pen, to make sure he's not sick, that would be ideal.
I have taken a piece of light fencing and put it on my existing fence with zip ties for a temp. thing. It works, since they aren't dogs or something like that.

Your rooster is gorgeous!
Thanks. He is a stray that made a home here 😆 We call him Ralphie.

Aw what a great story for Baby! His own apartment! lol. That’s fantastic. You can’t keep him?
Yeah people can be awful abandoning animals. Ugh.
Ralphie came here about two months ago. This is his home now. A month after him a hen showed up too. They seemed to know each other, so now she also has a home here. They all seem to be working through the pecking order and getting used to things. But I have absolutely no more room for strays. So I truly hope no more show up.

Just an update on the 2 newbies. Thankfully they’re both very healthy and completely fit in with my 5. They still don’t let me pet but do come close now. It took Wilma awhile to roost or eat with everyone but now has been accepted by all. Ralphie still rules the roost telling them when to go to bed and when to wake 😆 We had single digits at night for awhile so I was worried about his large comb and wattles (always seem to be wet) but all is well and I don’t see frostbite. Yay!

Here’s Wilma.
