I live in Madison, and currently the law is only 4 hens in your backyard; i know tons of people who have 7 or 8 chickens, in fact all the people i know have at least 6. is it ok to go ahead and get 5, or not? i DEFINITALY want mare than 4, but if thats going to get me in trouble, i don't.

I am in San Antonio and the law is three "fowl" in the backyard. I had read this years ago on the county website and when I went to puchase my chicks (first time owner) this year the guy at the feed store assured me I could have twelve..Hey, maybe the city changed the law, right? LOL. So I went ahead and got twelve.. no, just kidding, I got four, just in case I was closer to being right then the feed store guy.. Turns out I was right, three chickens are allowed. So, I am kinda in your boat, except I have hateful, hateful neighbors, who are sure to complain. I am HOPING that they will not be able to really tell that I have four, as they are two buffs and two red sex links and at least the two buffs really look alike... but just in case, I aske a friend who lives in the country and has pet chickens to be my backup if I needed to get rid of one. She agreed, and also offered to help if one should turn out to be a rooster... she is a GOOD FRIEND...

So my suggestion is to try it, but have a backup plan.

yeah. i have nasty neighbors. there is a huge hotel like thing right across from my house. its like a small hotel, it is made out of an old historic building. the lady who owns it is MEAN! she screams at anyone who comes onto the porprety.
the chickens whoulden't be near her lot, but she could definitely see are run. its so far away i hope she doesn't try to count all the hens. we wont have any roosters, so there is no reason she should count them. i hope this goes ok!
