Striaght run chicks

I ordered from a small, local breeder that stated she had high success/proportion of pullets for her straight run chicks. But we thought we were being more realistic to hope for a 50/50 ratio. So we bought 8 chicks of two breeds.

Instead, I got 3 roos out of 4 Salmon Favorelles, and 4/4 roosters in the Blue Ameraucanas.

7/8 roosters. They cost more than hatchery chicks bought at a local store, and then there was the time to raise them and eventually try to rehome them. We only had luck getting rid of a few of them, had to take the rest to an auction. We aren't going to go through that again.

The post is a month old... so long shot here my advice is still viable. We just purchased form Heartland Hatchery (the price list you attached) last week. I do know for a fact that Heartlad does NOT sell beyond pullets / cockerels after the "chick" phase. They are 3-5 day old, then who knows. I called and ordered a few I wanted that were able to be sexed as chicks, and got a few straight run as well. We're also hopeful our straight run are all hens, but time will tell. I do know that they threw in a couple extra birds to our order as well, so there's an even greater chance of a roo there.
Hopefully you've made your decision already, and are on your way to raising chickens.
