String in duck mouth

I have an 8 week Cayuga who found a feed bag string in a bin in the coop overnight. She was stuck to the bag this morning, when I went in I saw and clipped the strung and called the vet. Vet said to check to see if it's wrapped around her tongue and I can easily pull it out once unwrapped, if not bring her in. Anything else I should do? And should I bring a buddy duck for her if I have to take her to the vet? Cross posting in emergencies, Thanks!

Yes bring her favourite friend it always helps them to have a buddy. Something soft to eat maybe, and if she looks down I'd give her some quiet time and a heat source. Birds lose heat quickly if they are injured or in shock.

Crisis averted. She had the string wrapped around her tongue and bottom bill and tied. Ducks! I'm sure this won't be the last adventure. Thanks for the help . I was kind of freaking out. I knew I liked them, but the thought of her in peril was awful!

Glad we were able to "be there." shew. As I keep telling people, ducks can get themselves into the most unpredictable, unusual, perilous situations in the blink of an eye. Acht wove her neck and shoulders into the woven wire fence and got stuck there. Oh, awful. Did not make a sound. It was when I did the head count that I realized she was missing and went to find her.

With 10, I have fallen into the habit of headcounts, a holdover from my teacher days, maybe. But it it was also one of the two loudmouths - I heard her in the coop before I even finished counting!

No kidding. My vet records are a testament to that. First Wobbles goes and sticks his bill into my USB port of all places, then Bean swallows my ear gauge! And I am CONSTANTLY having to pull out long purple strands of hair right up out of his gullet (so I know they're mine, heh)...thankfully, no tangles or tongue-tying. Yet.

Thank goodness Kanga's little cayuga baby is okay!! I got a real soft spot for those green beauties.
