I was wondering if you have ever had a situation where you lost several chickens in a row for no apparent cause other than possibly age? I have lost a few of my hens and my only rooster 
over the last few weeks. They were about ten years old, which I guess is an ok age for a chicken, but it's like they are fine at night, eating meal worms being happy chickens, then boom dead the next morning. No sign of injury or illness. Almost like a heart attack? The rest of the flock is fine and healthy if not a little lost without their rooster.
