Me and my Grandfarther Got 29 Cochins From Stromburgs. They Were mixed colors Basically every color in the rainbow(Birchen,Splash,Blue, silver penciled, red, golden laced, Black And a few that are still mysteries.) We Had great Luck and What I think is good quality Birds. I was reading a thread on who thought what was the best hatchery and nobody once said or recomended them. So I was Wondering what others thought.? I personally think they are great We paid 64$ for all 29 w. shipping and handling .

They have a nice selection, some breeds other hatcheries don't have, but for most things they are wayyyy overpriced. That's the only thing keeping me from buying from them.

I only dealt with them one time. Yes, they had higher prices but I won't do business with anyone that is absolutely rude and thinks they are doing you a favor by being there so you can give them your money. And I think the gal I talked with is one of the original owners.

Also, it all depends on what you call "good quality Birds". "Good Quality" and "Hatchery" are normally contradictory terms. "Production" or "Utility" quality is more often associated with hatcheries.

God Bless,

Strombergs isn't a hatchery... which is why they don't get many good reviews. Also why their prices are higher than most.

They take orders from an office and have other hatcheries do the work for them... ask them if they hatch their own chicks... if you think that they are rude when you ask normal questions, what until you ask that one.

However if you received quality chicks and you like them than I guess that's all you really wanted in a hatchery or a wholesaler/drop-shipper. If your looking for quality in birds go to a breeder... quality in customer service... go to a hatchery as they have more people working for them and not very many tend to the flocks that the eggs come from, so in return have more time to help you.

I think there assortment is great. There not full grown yet but from what I see the solid colors look perfect. The Silver penciled has a few brown almost like millie fluer (not sure how thats spelled) feathers but i just pull them out. There form lookes good so far. Ill let you know how they do after i show them

I have bought products off them for years. I have never bought chicks. They are quick shippers and usaully the prices of products in the catalog includes shipping.(That should be considered when comparing prices) I thought they had alot of oddball stuff you couldn't just find anywhere. I like them and have mentioned them alot when referring products to people(on this site).
Again, I have never bought chicks from them. Nor have I bought from a breeder. I have only bought from Hatcherys. I raise chickens for 3 things... meat, eggs and fun. It doesn't matter to me if their color shade is off or their feathers aren't perfectly lined. If I was showing birds then I would buy from a breeder, but I don't.

If you are raising for food or fun you are doing good. That price you paid was great. The hobby and past-time you picked to share with your grandfather is awesome. Pay attention you can probably learn alot from and about him you can pass on later. For that I'll give you a thumbs up.

I hate when people are rude, especially when you buying something from them! We got a nice lady who was patient. But I guess It all depends on who answers the phone, and you never know what kind of day they had. Im not sticking up for them everyones experience is diffrent. But from the responses most people sound like they they got a rude person. They can be expensive, but there assortmets are great. Thanks For your response! I appreciate it
