Actually I know how you feel. It is hard to pick just one breed or just a couple of breeds. I really like Ameraucanas but Orpingtons are sooo fluffy looking. I have a couple Wyandottes too. Delawares look so nice and oh I could go on. Since I am not breeding a particular breed, barnyard mix is where I am at.
If I liked the looks of a breed in some pictures, I would check out its attributes on the Henderson chart. I knew I didn't want birds considered "layers" as opposed to "dual purpose" breeds. I wasn't interested in those that laid white eggs. Nor did I think I wanted any bantam breeds.
Whoopsies, that last thing changed, because now I love banties. Not more than the big birds, because I am extremely fond of my big ol' gals.
So I have a highly varied flock of allllll sorts of chickens. I like it that way. It's colorful. So are the eggs they lay.
