My little khaki broke her femur. I’m not entirely sure how but I suspect it’s from being much smaller than her sister who mounts her frequently due to hormones/etc. The options presented were grim- Medicate and see if with rest and pain management the muscle heals around it where she can use it in some capacity again, surgery to pin it which doesn’t have the greatest guaranteed outcome, or euthanize. I chose to euthanize. Having had a disabled Pekin who I loved dearly and devoted everything to, for him to pass in the end broke my heart. I don’t want her to be in excruciating pain without a clear good outcome. But, every time I have to make this decision I struggle. Guess im
Looking for some solidarity… I’m 3/3 birds this month, two of my chickens died for different reasons and I didn’t get to make a humane decision for them, but this still really, really sucks.

A femur fracture is a bad one. I've had a couple here, and they didn't heal.
