stupid accidental chick death - I feel TERRIBLE :(

I am with Farmer Kitty...there was not anything you could have done differently. It was just an unfortunate accident.

I'm so sorry for your loss

It's tough as parents of any species to lose one of our babies, we always feel as if we could've/should've done something (or not done) to prevent these kinds of accidents. It's not your fault, it's obvious you love your birds!

Oh I am sorry you lost the little one. Accidents happen and this was clearly an accident.

I've had chicks fly into things also. It happened twice to me in the last couple of weeks with my current batch of chicks. Luckily, they are both alright. They seem to "take off" without being able to steer. One hit the fencing around the chicken yard and a few days later another flew into the side of the chick coop. My chicks are about 9 weeks old now and eat from my hand and fly up to sit on me (usually shoulder, head or sometimes lap) so it's possible your chick was not spooked by you, but simply did not go in the right direction. There was probably nothing you could have done to prevent this. Sometimes things just happen, but it doesn't make it any easier. I'm so sorry.

I am sorry also and accidents do happen with these chicks/chickens. Don't feel to awful, it shall pass as you watch the ones you have grow and entertain you.

I'm sorry for your loss. The chicks are so easily spooked at that age, hoping it never happens to you again.

Oh man. The harder you try sometimes.... Last year I had a hen with 2 chicks. Thought I'd be smart and set her up in a big workshop to avoid the cats and other varmit that gets these free range chicks. Had hay, feed, water. There were plywood sheets leaning against the wall. Wouldn't you know it, the momma hen flew up onto the edge of the plywood, knocking it over. It smashed one of the chicks. Make it even worse, I saw it happening and was like "OH NO". I burst into tears when it happened. I felt so bad.

We just do the best we can, and hope it's enough.

I am so sorry. How sad. It hapens though, don't feel bad. Not a lot you could have done.
