Stupid dog!

My neighbours got a puppy last fall. He's around 7 months old now, and they refuse to tie him up......which means our chickens can no longer range. I am so annoyed! We live on 2 acres, and this neighbour is quite a ways up the hill from us...but his dog is constantly coming down onto our property. One other neighbour has already complained about the dog, but the neighbour who owns the dog says he doesn't want his dog tied up. We can't even go for walks up that way anymore because their dog jumps all over my kids and knocks my 4 year old down, and our 4 month old puppy is overwhelmed by this dog jumping all over him and just going insane. We have to wait there until the neighbour finally sees his dog being a pain and comes and out calls him home.
My chickens are used to ranging pretty often in nice weather. They have been kept in the coop/run all winter...but now that it's thawing nicely, they really could be out when I'm home......but I can't let them out because I'm positive that this dog will attack and kill them. My white silkie, Coconut, just paces back and forth in front of the run door....she wants out so badly! Poor girls.

The neighbour's dog is bothering you, your kids, chickens and your dog on your property? Is there no fence between you and the neighbours or any measures to confine the dog?

If the dog is being a nuisance, they should either put a proper fence around it or tie it up. Dogs come with responsibilities and that includes making sure it is not a nuisance or problem for neighbours.

Paintball gun might work better than a bb gun. Some places that bb gun might be considered cruelty to animals. Check your local laws, see what's legal. Get out your cell phone camera (or other camera) and document him on your property. File regular police reports of this trespassing dog and explain that it causes physical harm to your children and livestock on the property. Contact the animal warden about this "stray". Roaming dogs at large aren't legal anywhere, no matter how friendly.

Yeah, that is ridiculous. Start the legal way to get this situation under control (cops and animal control), if that doesn't work, do what you need to do to defend your animals and your property (as long as there are not any legal repercussions - here in Indiana we can shoot anything at anytime that kills our livestock). You should not have to live like that!

When you are walking you can use a Hot Stick to shock the dog with. He will learn quick to stay away from you and yours. if your property is fenced run a electric fence around the bottom on the outside of the fence. not very expensive and works good for any predators. you can also use pre-assembled electric fence for your chickens. Good luck.

This is a miserable situation for you, your animals, and this puppy. The other posters were right on, and idiot pet owners should have consequences. Unfortunately, the one who's going to pay the most is this dog.
How many trips to the shelter will they pay for? Is he vaccinated? Let Animal Control deal with this one! I'd bet that he's not up to date on anything, given that these are 'Run Free' idiots.
Fencing will be good for your lot line and chicken area at least; electric with a very hot charger will protect your flock from more than this one dog.
My animals are very well fenced, and only rarely will someone escape. It's part of being a responsible animal owner. This is just wrong!
