Stupid dog!

You can try running them off, it does not work not at all, complete waist of effort! Once these dogs have formed a pack (2 or more hunting together) they will not stop. And it does not matter if they are tame or wild. I have to shoot them, this is the only thing I have found that works.
IF you have really good animal control maybe they will come in and trap and relocate them,,,, I dont have this option,,,

We have run him off more than once. He hasn’t discovered my chickens yet....but when he does, I’m sure he will be down here more often. They are 100% safe in their covered run and coop, so at least they get to be safely outdoors. They pace at the run gate though, even after being “cooped up” all winter. They definitely want out and miss their free ranging days.
Our upper yard is fenced, but the chickens just go through it because it’s wire. Other than that, no one here has fences. So the chickens often go over to my next door neighbours house to range, the people with the dog live next to him and the dog is always at my next door neighbours house. Unless I can keep the chickens contained to our yard, they just won’t be able to go out unless it’s just before roosting time.

Once we take on the commitment of owning and caring for chickens, it's our responsibility to keep them safe and on our own property. Sometimes that means keeping them penned, sometimes that means putting up a fence to keep potential predators off our property. If the neighbor's dog can get into your yard and near your chickens, so can anythng else. An electric fence - I'm talking strands of wire, not poultry netting - is a relatively inexpensive investment and they can be put up in any way or shape you need them to. If it's as simple as putting chicken wire around the bottom of your exsisting fence, why not do that? It's just as much your responsibility to keep your chickens safe as it is for the neighbors to keep their pup at home.

If your chickens free range and visit some neighbors yard, they are just as guilty as the dog coming to visit. The chickens belong on your property - whatever it takes to keep them there.

When one of my birds gets out and killed, there is nothing I can do. Clip a wing if she gets back alive,,, this has so far stopped them from flying over the fences.
And dont think that because your birds are caged that they are safe, dogs come over my fence and straight to the caged roosters, beat the cage until it gives up and kill the bird inside! (not bothering the free rangers) Of course IF I am home I go out and shoot the offender/s, but I cannot be here 24/7!

I have a neighbor that breeds boston terriers. They used to get out all the time. I caught one, called AC, they came and got her. Owner never bothered to go get her out of jail. I tried talking to my neighbor, who insisted it was NOT her dogs coming over to my place. So one day I saw yet another one coming down my 1/4 mile long driveway as I was leaving in my truck. I got out and yelled at the dog, who then turned around and ran for home. I followed it. What do you know.. it went right to my neighor's place (1/2 mile down from me). I pulled in and they were outside so I asked "is this your dog?". yes. "Ok so the next time I call and tell you your dog is after my chickens again, don't try to tell me it's not yours".

A couple months go by and no dog problems. Then I see a boston in my backyard trying to figure out how to get in the run after my birds. I let my 3 130lb German Shepherds out. They go running after the dog, who runs toward the woods behind me. I call my dogs back and go inside to call the neighbor.

Me: I just wanted you to know one of your bostons was in my backyard trying to go after my chickens.
Neighbor: It couldn't be my dog. They're all here.
Me: Ok well that's good. Because I sent my 3 German Shepherds after it. They disappeared into the woods in hot pursuit.
Neighbor: They didn't hurt her did they? She's pregnant!!!!
Me: Well since it's not your dog, it's not your problem, right?
I hung up.
Haven't seen any bostons here since.

It was so frustrating. In my talks with them I came to find out they've had several dogs go missing. We have coyotes around. And LOTS of cattle ranchers who will shoot a stray dog on sight-especially during calving season. I suggested they put an electric fence around their kennel to keep the dogs in. She replied, shocked I would say such a thing, that she couldn't risk hurting her dogs like that. umm.. so it's better to let em run loose to get shot or eaten? Seriously? I suspect she eventually did put up an electric fence or else fortify what they have, because I haven't seen one since the last "episode" and that was about a year ago.
