Stupid Frustration Venting

I already have them on something with texture. That should help with some of them. For the rest I'll try the band-aid/toothpick option and see what happens.

I think most of them, if not all, are just going to be given to someone I know who has more time. Their good fortune over my temper tantrum.

I'm just so angry with myself right now.

Just for future reference,

Those of you who use a toothpick for a splint, do you sand the sharp point off or shorten the toothpick? I'd think the point would be an injury risk and wouldn't want to put that on a chick in any way.

I'm wondering if wooden matchsticks might be a good choice. I'm not sure that they are as strong, but they seem to be lightweight and maybe less work. I'd pop the sulfur end off, though, or at least light it, blow it out, and let it cool!

Just an update: I panicked and was kicking myself too soon. Two passed away and after a long time of trying to hunt down (and eventually go buy) splinting material, I came back home, sent out an email to someone I know, and just offered to have them come pick the babies up so they could deal with them.

By the time they came to pick up the spraddle legged babies almost all of them had cured themselves on the textured surface. There were maybe five or six left that were bad off.

Urgh. I knew quail grew fast, but that sort of recovery is amazing.

I now have a modest sized batch of babies to raise by the bed this winter. Who says hatching season ever ends?

You'd Benefit From Removing Them Much Sooner. Not Only In The Spraddle Leg Dept, But Int Will Lower Post Hatch Chick( All Chicks) Mortality As Well.
