stupid people why have a dog if you dant care for it (Rant)

If the dog has retained the afterbirth or has dead pups inside her uterus, she will become very ill and die. Since she whelped one pup, it would be called secondary inertia. The dog will pant, drink a lot of water, show a loss of appetite, be unable to get comfortable and run a high temperature. Sometimes there will be a foul smelling discharge.Perhaps the woman could get a temperature on the dog.

Update: the dog was retaining the other pups the vet said she could of being trying to stop the labour for days there was 2 more dead pups and they did an emergency op on her lastnight and removed everything including her womb as it was too badly damaged and they will be keeping the dog until the owners return if they refuse to pay they will be getting the police informed and they will then have the chioce to sign the dog over to them.

Highlander they called the RSPCA they just told them they could come see the dog on MONDAY! or they should take her to the nearest emergency vets! i dont know how the RSPCA are by you but they just dont seem to give a damb by us anymore we called them about an abandoned and neglected horse and they didnt want too know we had to call the ILPH which is a special horse charity to come out they did but sadly the horse had to be put to sleep with ragwort poisening as he had eaten so much
Ive gotta say the RSPCA seem to be losing there standards with me they dont care by us anymore

I've never had to call the SSPCA for anything thank goodness, but I would hope in an emergency they would come out quicker than 3 days. That's terrible.

Glad the dog got treated though, poor thing. I hope the owners get what is coming to them.

dont worry i'll make sure of it they have the dog and some chickens and im guessing other animals when ive finnished they wont have anything

I'm glad to hear the dog has been properly cared for. The owners don't deserve to have her back. To go away for that length of holiday and not have proper care in place is criminal. If you can afford the holiday and the cars then put your dog in a kennel and then she would not have suffered as she did. She could have died if action was not taken - thankfully there were people looking out for her.
I think the RSPCA seem to have their priorities a bit wrong and I also think it depends on the area you live in.
Thanks for caring about this dog, Fairy.

Good job for stepping in!

It's people like you that could eventually change the world!

Wow ya'll are harsh. Thought the owners didnt know the dog was pregnant? You think it's wrong for someone to have a neighbor come over twice a day to let a dog into a fenced yard and be fed and watered? Since the dog was pregnant and did have complications, it's good it was taken to a vet, and the owners should of course pay for that when they come home, but to say that you'll see to it they don't own any animals? What exactly did they do wrong?

How can you ban some one from owning animals? I thought that the owners would have to be charged and even so, not taking a dog to the vets when you didn't know if thier was a emergancy right now isn't considered abuse, some times letting nature take it's course is better. glad the dog got help but the family did see to it that the dog had someone take care of it, feeding it and such, so other then not seeking help right away they have done nothing that they can get charged for.

I think the OP has some information that was hinted at like when they said that the absent owners idea of a walk is taking the dog to a run in a vacant property without a leash. I know if I had an intact female I would NOT be letting her run leash free

Not enough details here to know if this is abuse, but seems likely that there is some level of neglect. The laws in the UK may be different then here in the US.
I'm glad that Fairybee and friend stepped up to help, that's a tough thing to get involved.
