Stupid PO!

Actually, I have heard quite a few recommendations not to ship started birds. Babies survive the trip because they still have their yolk sac to feed from. Were there any apples, grapes, kiwi's or such in the box? If not, that would be why they died. They MUST have something in the box that has water in it.

She put food and watermelon in their box.

It depends. The Express shipping only covers $100. So you'd have to get additional insurance to cover the difference if the birds cost more than $100.

Yes, they did have feed and watermelon in the box, in a bowl not just thrown in the bottom like most people do. They ate all but a little bit of it and the hen even laid an egg before she died.

This was a year old hen even.

The post office said and I quote from the postmaster himself "A claim can only be made IF the box shows VISIBLE damage to the container itself indicating that it was crushed or something to cause injury or death. "

So if the birds were put into someplace that was crammed full of boxes and buried in the back of a truck or something, they could have likely suffocated or died of heat stroke. One of the reasons I hate the bio-filters they make you use now, I feel it would make it much more difficult for the birds to breathe in there. Ever try wearing a mask over your face in the heat? I am so fustrated. I saw the pictures of the birds and the box and it did not appear there was any damage to the box itself.

The guy had another fiasco with his PO and the eggs he was supposed to get today. The PO told him they were not there but he checked online and it said they were and the PO had already delivered them to his house and left them outside when he had specific writen instructions to them to keep all packages at the post office for pick up. The eggs were intact but in full sun when he left work in a hurry to get them. He said though with the packing I did they were all fine and still cool to the touch so hopefully, they are okay.
