Ok i have wanted to breed silkies since the day i got my first chicken (is a silkie his name is Charlie) anyway i have a REALLY stupid question.........do colors mix or is it dominant gene Right now i have 3 reds 1 partridge 2 blues 2 whites and 3 silvers and 1 splash.....so like if i was to breed my red roo (his name is Owin) to my white hen(Salt) what would the babys look like? would they be mutts? or would they be all red with a few whites or or all whites and a few reds????? Sorry if this is confusing......

Hi, and welcome to BYC......the answer to your question is........it all depends on if your white is a pure white (both parents were white and their parents were white, etc. and the genetics of your red roo as well). There's a long-running discussion on silkie genetics here.....do a search and be ready to overload on info...LOL. You can always experiment and see what you get, but if you plan to sell breedable birds the majority of buyers wll want pure bred standard colors.

Ok well i know they come from really nice show breeders my whites for sure are 100% ....but i have suspicions about the red ...lol funny story about then i got them from a girl on craigslist she had bought 2 dozen silkie eggs from a breeder and she told me there were buffs ...but i doubt it there WAY to dark so i'm guessing there red i guess i could post pics if you want? :] (look at me trying to show of my babys lol) oh and ty for the welcome !
