Bear with me guys... I am getting ready to order our chicks; coop is about done and we are working on the run. Do most folks (for meat/eating chickens) order chicks, raise, slaughter and reorder chicks or do they incubate and raise their own? I had planned on raising my own, but the more I read about incubating and all the issues I'm wondering if I'm nuts!

Yoyu can do it any way you desire. I'll even give a link to a homemade incubator if you want to go that route. (Not that I'd try to influence you)

I think you will find that people have problems with incubating eggs, brooding chicks, shipping chicks in the mail, and everything else. You will also find that a lot of people have a lot of success. The problems seem to get emphasized on this site as people are asking for help. Try to find the best match for your personality and have fun with it.

I just buy new chicks from the hatchery. It is a lot less hassle for us. It just depends on how involved in chickens you want to get.
