What is bumblefoot, what causes it, and can I prevent it? I have read so many threads I know how to treat it but I dont ever want to have to

Its a staph infection on the bottom of the chicken's foot and its caused by a small injury that becomes infected. Basically, the most common things that cause it are minor injuries that get infected...watch out for sharp objects that can puncture the pad of their feet in their run area as its an easy way to cause the infection.

Moodly, bumblefoot is an infection on the bottom of the foot. It is caused by a bad bruise or a cut. While not an endall prevention, the rule of thumb for roosts is high enough to require at least one wing flap to land safely, or low enough so the bird can just hop gently off. Other things to consider are objects on the floor that might hinder a safe landing. Hope this helps ya........Pop
