my hubby ended up taking out alot in loans for school and we are currently dealing with all the b.s. involved with them being sold, divided and what ever else the loan people decide to do with the things.

I deal with most of the finances and my hubby works..ALOT...so trying to deal with these loans makes me want to pull my hair out!!
One company does online payments, fine, no biggie. I set up the account and pay the bill. Now when THEIR site is having issues and i try and call to pay, they don't even want to let me pay them because I'm not my hubby!!

They want him to call and go thru all the stuff to reset the account and blah blah blah. He didn't even make the account! I did! He doesn't even know the password!! So finally, after multiple calls in 3 wks time, i told them either let me authorize the payment or you aren't getting your money. My hubby works 80+ hrs a wk and isn't able to deal with the b.s. during their business hrs.

I've never had sooo many issues when trying to give a company money!!

The harder they make it for you to pay, the more they can charge you for late fees. Go thru your banks bill pay to automatically send them a payment each month. That way you are not dependent on their website. Or have a separate bank account and sign up for their auto pay. Transfer money in that account each month and you will be amazed at how the website problems disappear.

Yeah I'm so not looking forward to when my husband is done with school and those loans come due. I paid my last one off a couple years ago, such a relief!

Now if I didn't have to call India to deal with the car loan people, I'd be happy! So glad the new car has a domestic office.

Before he got back into school he was in the Army... when I told them "Look, if you want money, you need to authorize me... he is in IRAQ... he's not calling you."

They wanted a special power of attorney, they wouldn't take the general that is supposed to cover "everything".

He ended up calling from Iraq and sending them a special POA he was able to get there so that I could deal with it from then on.

The power company is just as bad, complete with the automated phone system that charges you to talk to a real human being. Gee, my name's been on that account for 18 years, maybe you should let me pay it!

I can't imagine why they would even care "who" is paying them as long as they are being paid. Ridiculous.

It isn't just student loans. When my mother went to a convalescent hospital, my sister handled her finances. Some companies insisted on talking to my mother directly which just wasn't possible. My sister told them if they wanted to get paid they had to talk to her. Talking to our mother was not an option. There were some companies that refused to deal with my sister and they never did get paid. Served them right. After my husband died, the mortgage company flatly refused to talk to me or to negotiate with me in any way. After I found out more was owed on the property than it was worth I decided to let the bank have it. Best decision I ever made. I ended up living there a year for free and took that time to find another place to live. I now have a much nicer house with much lower payments in another part of the country. When the bank sold the property they got maybe a quarter of what was owed. Had they worked with me they would have eventually got all their money. As it was, they didn't.
