Stupid Stupid Stupid!

the thing was the shell was so dark that I could hardly see anything. this was an RIR egg but it was darker than normal. I got mistaken and thought it was a quitter because I could never see anything in there.

my exact thoughts and it usually is the reason-alot of my chicks look darker until fluffed out. and Im sorry about your chick:-( Be very patient..leave all eggs in until day 10-at least-I even leave eggs in till day 14-and only pull clear or blood rings out...Some eggs are so dark I never know what is going on-I have chicks hatching now and 4 olive eggs ( very dark olive eggs) couldnt see in them from day 1 but all 3 out of 4 hatched out last night and the 4th was a day behind anyway but Im hoping that one will too..Patience

I take that back I just went and checked bator and that 4th and last olive egg is pipping! This is the first time I have been so patient-Im surprising myself-but the more I sit back and let nature takes it course the easier it is getting for me to not open that bator at all during lockdown. Ill take pictures of the olive egg shells when the hatch is all done so you can see just how dark they are-now thats nerve racking not knowing if they are going to hatch or even fertile!

thank you all for your support. and the hugs

even if the down is just brown, that still wouldn't make any sense because all of my rir chicks have been born with yellow down and it darkened over time. this is a cross that should have even lighter feathers than that, but it doesn't seem to be that way.
