I've heard that a lot of times and believe it may work but my question is WHY? Styrofoam is something horrible to ingest. Would you ever eat styrofoam? Will you eat the eggs? I feed my chicken organic feed and would never give them anything other than FOOD to eat because I want them to be healthy and their eggs to be healthy.

If styrofoam gives off CFC's when burned that destroy the ozone layer, think what it might do to one when ingested? Sounds horrible to me. I would never even try it, nor do I believe it. Sounds far-fetched and if it seemed like it worked, it was probably a coincidence. Her hens probably would have laid without the styrofoam.

Her chickens laid eggs in spite of her misguided feeding of styrofoam, not because of it. You can take that to the bank.

i was told it makes their feathers grow,,, well mine had lost a lot of feathers,,so i gave them some styrofoam from an ice chest and now about two weeks later their feathers are back it worked for me dont know about the egg production.

Sorry to sound harsh, but the Styrofoam had nothing to do with it. Chickens naturally molt and re-grow feathers. Your birds would have re-grown feathers anyway.

X2. As mentioned previously in this very old thread, your chickens survived your feeding them Styrofoam and grew in their new feathers naturally IN SPITE of you feeding them Styrofoam. They would have replaced their feathers just fine and with far less risk of death without the foam. Next time just try feeding them a little extra protein.

i know they regrow feathers but when it was taking that long to grow back,, they were going to be a little bold for the winter so it seems to speed up the natural process of it it does work ,,,this is not my first time doing this

I lost 4 half grown turkeys to eating styrofoam. 2 had died before I figured out what was going on. They had eaten an styrofoam cooler under a bench. They got plugged up and died
