I know this is BYChickens, but we have a large number of duck and geese people here as well.

Can we have subsections please to help organize things some?

Ducks -
housing/pens (they have different requirements and its hard to search for these)
emergencies (cause lets face it, if you post in the chicken emergency area it gets ignored)
incubating (again different requirements, would be nice to have a spot to share/troubleshoot)
general (all around mish mash chit chat... basically anything not falling into the above)

Geese -
housing
emergencies
incubating
general

feed back on duck forum
I would love to see at least separate emergency section. I think it would be helpful in keeping some of the more disturbing posts separate.
As far as dividing up the rest of the subjects, feeding, hatching, housing, that would probably be a great idea too. I have to weed through a lot of the posts on subjects that don't interest me, like hatching, to get to those that do. And a separate picture section would be great.
Thanks.

I think the proposed subsections are a great idea! This forum does seem to have a large number of duck/geese people and it would be nice to see a larger section of forums for us.

This is definitely something we've thought about a lot over the years. Ducks have always been a part of BYC and over the last few years the duck section has exploded (I'm less familiar with the Geese section).

On this new system we have the ability to do sub-sections, so it may be something that is much easier to do now than it was before. Keep the discussion and suggestions going and the staff will refresh the discussion!

Definitely at least for the emergency/diseases portion. That would help a lot! An under the coops, it would be nice to see a separate topic: Duck Houses along with the brooders and coops.

Can we add "Raising Backyard Waterfowl" to the forum options? I think ducks alone would be too limited, but combined with other waterfowl, I think we could find enough folks to make a showing there. Is this something we can consider? I think the same format as "Raising Backyard Chickens" would be perfect, and simple.

Nifty thank you for looking at giving more detailed subsections under the Duck and Goose headers. Keeping them separate will also be needed. Ducks and geese have much different care and needs. Ducks are omnivores, geese are herbivores. They require different housing also as ducklings are often brooded for weeks where goslings NEED to be on grass at a couple of days old for good health. Although they do share some items in care, they are different enough to keep them separate.

Yes - I love these suggestions. I spend most of my time on BYC in the duck and geese threads. It would be so nice to have them more organized!

We'd love to be catered too, but this idea has been up for debate before, and put off at the time, from what I understand. While it would be nice to have everything perfectly divided, I'd be grateful to even have a start with waterfowl seperate. I don't see any reason why there couldn't be subheading, as we would want anyone to get confused. They do have different basic needs, but most food is still sold as waterfowl, ditto most waterfowl hatching instructions, and not duck and goose seperate. I was glad when Nifty told me about this link I came over to check it out.

Always good to have our waterfowl guru here. Hi Celtic.
