Subsection for ducks & Geese

Would pond related threads be included in the Housing or General? Pond related threads seem to be becoming a trending topic in the section.


I second one of the above posts regarding a possible Meat Bird section. While some members do raise their birds for meat it seems to be more of a taboo subject in the duck section since a good majority of people's ducks are pets. I don't eat meat but I would think processing a duck would require different techniques from a chicken.

I'd probably vote in with the housing. For some reason when I think "Housing" coop,runs, and ponds just seem like the basics that would all just go together. Plus it would free up space in the general section from being bombarded with threads about it.

Ok, how about the following structure to better match what we have in the chicken section?

• Incubating, Hatching, & Raising Ducklings
• Housing & Feeding Your Ducks
• Duck Emergencies
• Meat Ducks - Raising & Processing
• Managing Your Ducks
• Pictures & Stories of Your Ducks

(We really like to avoid "general" since people often get lazy and just dump everything in there)

I updated my list above to include the "Meat Ducks - Raising & Processing" since there may be differences.

I also added "feeding" to housing. We may want to split those up later, but I think that works for now.

Anything related to ponds would definitely go into "housing".

Where would the breed threads go? There's quite a few of those now. Would a duck version of breed,genetics,& Showing be possible?

I've never seen any other species besides chickens in the BGS section. Plus anytime anyone asks for showing advice over there about waterfowl they usually get ignored. This year alone we've added a lot of breeders as well as members who show their ducks. There isn't as much of a demand for genetics but there's defiantly the occasional thread regarding it.

Good point! We may want to combine all the breed stuff into one section that includes showing, discussing breeds, and determining breeds / gender.

Thoughts on what to call it?

Wow, start back to school working, and I miss everything, LOL. Seriously, Celtic and Kevin have covered everything.

I hope this goes well, becasue I'd love to see the goose section too, and I know a lot of others would too. I can't even imagine how many goose questions Celtic answers every day.
