Hello from Ontario, Canada!
We are a suburban family raising 2 Azure Blue chicks. They are 3 weeks old. We have received them 2 weeks ago from our son’s school - they were covering “Green Technologies” and the teacher decided that homesteading is the best thing to teach the kids :), the chicks were offered to families who wanted them and we’ve decided to adopt them.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
That the kids get to see them grow, take care of them, learn hands on the difference between a properly raised chicken and the poor souls raised in meat lots 😔.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I am a wedding cake designer, love reading books, preserving food, gardening and sewing and needlepoint - I wish I had more time to do all of these daily!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
We’ve received some basic information about what to do with the chicks from the school, but I was looking for more info online and found the BYC ❤️

Images - chicks in the day we got them; at 2 weeks and at 3 weeks.

Thank you for reading
Maria

Hello Maria, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You should get 2 more chicks. You want at least 3 but integrating a lone chick is very difficult. When you only have a pair, if something happens to one of them the other would be left all alone.
Do you have your coop and run built and ready to go? Your chicks are ready to be outside now and off heat very soon.
