Becky, thank you for being responsible for these animals, when someone else was not. Thank you for caring enough to find homes for these birds and providing protection from predators for the mother and as far as the chick in question, there is a forum here for what breed or gender, that you can post your picture of the chick in question. The folks that frequent it are pretty good at getting the sex right when the chick is big enough. Welcome home to BYC...
