I live out in the country, but I do have a small flock. I lost 1 day-old chick when I first got them in January...he was an extra "packing peanut" that arrived here sickly, so it was not a big loss. I was sad about it though because I really tried to nurse him to health. It just wasn't meant to be. All was going perfectly and didn't lose any more until a couple weeks ago I suddenly lost my Rhode Island Red pullet who had just starting laying. I'm sure it was because of the extreme heat here in Texas - most days this summer have been near or over 100, and high humidity so it's hard to cool down.
