So about 11 or so months ago I obtained and very badly beaten up easter egger. I brought her home and got her back to a healthy layer. I now get about three eggs a week. I tried to introduce her to the others (Delaware, buckeye and California white) but it did not go well at all. Ater several attempts and methods I figured it would just not work. I build a run, split in half and placed a coop on each side. The easter egger and the others still patrol the fence and cackle and try to get at each other. I started to think that introducing her would nover work no matter what.
I recently got two speckled sussex chicks at about 2 weeks old. Now that they are ready to go outside I really worried about introducing them to the egger. I started by letting them in the run with her for a few minutes a day building it up over time. I then decided to go for broke. I placed the sussex chicks in the eggers coop at night. The next day I kept a close eye on them and lo and behold they are getting along. Now the chicks and the egger will walk the run during the day and then all will go into the coop at night. There was and will be a little pecking to establish order but they are getting along wonderfully. The egger who turned out to be so temperamental and would stop laying if she got upset laid a perfectly good blue egg the day after introduction. Things are great.
