Blondie the Buff Orpington brood hen hatched six of the eight eggs I gave her this weekend, July 25 & 26, 2020. I just wanted to show off my new babies! I'm so excited that six of them hatched and are super healthy! They can run up the ramp and jump in the coop at only four or five days old. I gave her random eggs. I'm not 100 percent sure which of my fifteen hens lays what egg.

Chick #1 could possibly be from Blondie, the Buff Orpington. I'm not sure which hens contributed the eggs for #2 & #3. I also have Red Sex Link hens. From what I understand of Red Sex Links is that they do not pass down the sexing gene that light means roo and red means pullet. I'm not worried about what sex the chicks are right now. I'm just trying to figure out who the mamas are. Either way I think they are just ADORABLE and LOVE them all! I can spend hours watching Blondie the brood hen teach them how to eat and scratch. She's an awesome mom. This isn't her first rodeo.

I know that one of the eggs came from my 2nd Generation Easter Egger. I only gave Blondie the brood hen ONE green egg. But now I have no idea which one of the chicks it is. Here's my 2nd Generation Easter Egger, Fancy. Any ideas which chick belongs to Fancy the 2nd Generation EE?

Here is the rooster I used. His name is Wiggles. He is a 1st Generation Easter Egger. He is my only rooster before this hatch.

I'm not sure if Chick #4 is an egg from one of my Black Australorps, or my one Plymouth Rock. :idunno

I'm pretty sure that adorable chicks #5 & #6 were eggs from my Sapphire Blue Plymouth Rock (picture below).

If you have any guesses which hen goes to which chick let me know. Otherwise this is just a post to show off my flock. I'm so happy with them! :wee

congrats on your great hatch :celebrate Those chicks are super cute :p

Not knowing which chick came from which egg is the one downside I've found of hatching with a broody (but there are loads of upsides, so I live with it happily). And even when the list of possible parents is small, it's still really hard to match chick with parents. At least you only have one possible dad to factor in!
