This gives me hope! I have 7 6 week old chicks right now and have been struggling with a RIR bully. She only picked on one other chick, which just happened to be the only other Rhode Island Red. Plucked out almost all of her tail feathers and started pecking at the vent as well. I separated the bully into an older, smaller brooder with a blanket in between because keeping her in the line of sight was unsuccessful before but we still needed the heat lamp. Today I reintroduced her to the others. They're definitely trying to sort out the pecking order and she's had her a#$ handed to her a couple of times but she's much less aggressive. She's pecked here and there at the other RIR but what's interesting is it seems like the other checks are protecting her. I'm not sure if she's just aggressive or if she might be a he, but I'm hoping we're all on the mend. Maybe when they relocate to their coop the extra space will help.
