Sudden death...cause ?

Have you tried thawed frozen peas? My ducks would walk over hot coals for that.

No, but I see now Peas listed as a treat that ducks find delectable, so we will definitely try those !!!
Thanks so much

Sounds good :) If they have never seen them before, they might be a little suspicious at first, but my guess is that they will go crazy for them once they have a taste. Just toss a handful towards the ducks and let them investigate. Good luck! :)

Our ducks love mealworms (as well as all insects.

) but those are a special treat we can get at the pet store. We buy the live ones, not the dried ones.

Keep an eye on the remaining ducklings for any sign of illness. I live in New Hampshire and we just lost three 7 week old ducklings in a similar fashion (lethargy then death a few hours later). We had the last one autopsied and they were killed by a mosquito bourne parasite. Still waiting for test results to determine exact parasite. Our other ducklings seem fine so far, but we are being cautious.

That is very interesting, Buggymuffin. Terribly sad about your ducks though :( Did your vet give a name to the disease that the mosquitoes passed on to them?

I raise mealworms, have had my culture going for almost 10 years now, so that is good to know
that this would be a good treat for ducks.

A person in keene that we gave 2 ducklings too just called today telling us he thinks he is about to lose one of
his, which he thinks is a drake...so this really has us a little on edge, wondering if there is some sort of health issues going on
with ducks in our area. So far our other 5 look fine 5 weeks old tomorrow...

That's not good. I hope it's an unrelated incident..

Do you have a vet that you go to regularly? I'm wondering if it's worth contacting them just to see if they have heard of other deaths being recorded in the area.
