Well I had 10 coturnix chicks I hatched that are about one week old. This morning i checked on them before work and they were all fine running around doing their thing. Got home today and one had suddenly died. The temp is about 96 give or take been eating a 28% game bird starter mash. Been putting the extra vitamins/ electrolytes in their water as well. They have all been healthy birds far as I could tell until that one suddenly died today. I looked all over the body and couldn't find where it had been picked on or any physical damage. Monday I switched them from a cardboard box brooder to a homemade one out of OSB board that has sand for bedding. Only things I could think of is that the bottom slides out for easy dumping and there's bout a 1/4" gap that a draft could come through? Been raining and bout 45-50 degree weather all day. But being bout a week old and getting their adult feathers could a small draft kill them? Only other thing I could think of is the sand comes from a local river bottom and maybe there's something in the sand that could have killed it? Hopefully not cause all the other chicks have been exposed to it as well. The sand was wet when I got it but made sure it was good and dry before I put chicks in there. Anybody else have any ideas? Let me know

Thanks
Luke
