Our year old Easter Egger hen died suddenly today. Noticed she was a tad listless yesterday, and this morning worse. She wouldn't leave the coop when we let them out this morning. Instead, she stayed inside coop and sat on floor, motionless and listless. We were gone for several hours and went to check on her. She had passed. Nothing appeared wrong, checked vent for egg bound, appeared ok. She had watery stool this morning. Unfortunate and sad, but relieved she didn't appear to have suffered. Any ideas what may have been going on with her? Thanks....

Aww, I'm so sorry... Its never easy when you lose one. It could of been anything that killed her though. This may not be your thing, but did you happen to open her up and see what was going on inside?

sometimes its a heart defect cos the others were fine !

no, didn't do an autopsy, just checked her over. talked to my neighbor, "THE Chicken Lady". :) She said it just sometimes happens. Figured that's what likely occurred, some defect. We have a Speckled Sussex that can't process leafy greens. Her crop tends to impact when she eats them and then we have to work with her to get things to pass. Figure she has some defect.. Anyway, thanks for input! :)

I just noticed you live in Magnolia, not too far from me. My sister in law lives in Indigio Lakes, small world.
