sudden death

My healthy, happy RIR suddenly died yesterday afternoon. We were out working in the chicken yard yesterday and all four of my sweet hens were fine. Then my husband went to shut the coop door for the night and she was still out in the yard, stiff. We fed them corn on the cob (uncooked) and some other scraps yesterday, bread and apricots. One of the hens has been pecking a hole in the the eggs lately. Do any of you have any answers? Are my other three in danger?

I'm sorry about your loss. Was it really hot yesterday? That can sometimes do it.

Nope, not hot. I live on the coast of California. It was in the high 60's, and humid (unusual here). My girls are not yet two years old.
