Sudden duckling death why would it happen

I had a male pekin duckling. He was hatched sept 13 2014. It is sept 28. I got home from a overnight trip and got him in the yard and turned on the water. He drunk like crazy. 30 minutes later I went into the coop and he was dead. I think he died because he drunk to much water to fast. Any ideas

Who was taking care of him? Ducklings need water with food 24/7.

My neighbor came down the same morning and fed and watered them.

The only way to be sure of the cause of death is a necropsy. Very sad for your loss. It sounded like the duckling had run out of water.
