We found Pepper, our 2 year old Barred Rock hen, very lethargic this morning. Our other 4 hens were active and chattering away, but Pepper just stood in one place and kept closing her eyes. She wasn't even enticed by cracked corn (her favorite). We immediately isolated her, gave her yoghurt and tetracycline in her water (because of the upper respiratory gurgling) and let her rest the entire day. Towards the end of the day, she seemed to perk up a little bit and ate some oatmeal and walked a little bit. We put her to rest and I just checked on her (9:30 pm). I picked her up and clear liquid started oozing from her bottom (no smell). She struggled a little bit, then more came pouring out with a little bit of fecal matter. What could be wrong with her???

We are new at this and are very, very worried.

Any advice, help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like an infection.

Any blood in the poo?

I would put antibiotics in the water and make her drink, also vitamins and electrolytes.

I had a CQ like that and after doing all of the above she finally pulled out of it.

Gave her to a friend and she was a good layer for them until their dog killed her.

have you checked her crop?

if she hasn't eaten much..it should feel empty..
feel for any lumps or grainy feeling..
if you're new..the crop is a little sac near the bottom of the neck, on top of the breast, slightly to the hen's right.

what all do you feed them?
can you get some electrolytes? she needs some quick..usually available at feed/farm stores..try getting Durvet brand..
in a pinch..diluted Pedialyte..
give by drops on beak if she won't drink.

when did you first notice the watery droppings?
could she have got into anything bad? (compost pile, anything rotten, lawn/garden chemicals, motor oils, etc..)..
is there any stagnant water around?

is it hot where you are?

when did she last lay an egg?
has she been wormed?

what color is the watery droppings?..please describe in detail..any undigested food?
make sure you keep the vent area clean..otherwise she'll attract flies and have maggots.

here are pics of droppings...see if anything is similar..

It felt kind of mushy last night and a bit grainy

Layer pellets with treats of corn and oatmeal.

She is drinking on her own. Just not eating much at all.

is there any stagnant water around? She has been enclosed in the coop for the last 4 days with our other 4 hens (raccoon was sighted last week) so she couldn't get into anything.

is it hot where you are? It was in the 90's this weekend. The coop is kept in a very shady part of the yard.
when did she last lay an egg? Sunday
has she been wormed? Not recently that we know of. We were given this hen last Tuesday. She's about 2 years old.
what color is the watery droppings?..please describe in detail..any undigested food? The solid part of her droppings are greenish. There is no apparent undigested food. The watery part is like the white of an egg, occasionally it is yellowish.
