Sudden move north in winter

I live in Minnesota and sometimes it can get really cold. I just have a water heater to keep the water from freezing and provide extra light in the winter. Make sure your coop is insulated. Hope your father heals.:fl Have a good move!

Thank you everyone!
The 4H ag office is a good idea! I will check that.
I do have family and friends in Winona. I was actually planning to ask a few friends if I could keep my chickens at one of their farms temporarily while I buy a place. Family is helping and my job will transfer me no problems, thank goodness.
:bow:clap
I had vaguely hopped I wouldn’t need anything vet wise for my 11 chickens, or that it at least won’t cost a few hundred or more, yes pipe dreams.
Today was pet research day.:hmm

I'm actually in Winona! That's so funny that's where you are coming to. I would offer to keep them for a while, but I don't have enough space at my house. :barnie

Really I think this is a good decision, to leave them. It is tough, but new chickens will also be fun. It will give you something to do and plan, be positive, and it will be a good way to meet people that are crazy chicken people too.

Chickens hate change, that would be a lot of change, that would be a lot of travel which would be a lot of stress, and cost a lot of money. Where as you can leave them in the same climate, and while they will have new digs, not any other issues.

Contact your local Agricultural Extension Office. Their 4H handles poultry testing for 4H youth. If they can't do it for you, they will know who can.
They might even help you find a new home for them, 4H may want them. That would be great. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. Same thing happened with my mom a few years ago. I owned a business and a home, had a teenager in high school. But, I didn't have my chickens then. I know exactly how you feel right now. Bless your heart.:hugs:idunno:hit Good luck to you hon.

No new news on my dad and I’ve been instructed not to say anything until they know more.
Thank you all for your support!

I’m still moving sometime in the next six to eight months.
So I have a flock question. If you think I should start another thread just tell me where.

I want to eventually start a breeding flock to sell eggs and chicks/hatching eggs.
I think I can use the move and starting my flock over to lay the base work. I’m aiming for EEs and Black sexlinks.
Would a combined flock of Amaracuanas or Super Blue Egg Layers and either BPR or Dominiques with one RIR and one Amaracuana or Araucana rooster work to produce a mix of EEs and sexlinks.
I’m planning for a large flock 20 - 30+ birds ultimately.
