Hi, everyone! I am grasping at straws unsure what to do. Yesterday evening one of my girls was laying down in the run unable to walk. She is very unsteady and is at points trembling. I have felt all over her found no wounds or injuries. It has been over 100° all week. I have given everyone frozen fruits, cool water, shade, a fan, and electrolytes but she appears to be the only one with a problem. I have given her scrambled eggs, electrolytes, VetRx, and nutri-drench. I brought her inside and separated her cooled her off thinking she may have just gotten too hot. She made it through the night but still no improvements. This morning she laid a very small very soft egg. It had a shell but when picking it up my finger went through it.

Sorry about your sick chicken. It is hard to know if this behavior is due to her reproductive disorder causing her soft egg and lameness, the heat, or a disease such as Mareks that causes neurological symptoms. I would give the hen human calcium 300 mg with vitamin d daily for the next 7 days to help with egg shells and muscle contraction. Try feeding some moistened chicken feed and egg, and get some human super b complex and give 1/4 tablet daily crushed in a little egg or a spoonful of water. Here are some good buys:

might be mareeks. Where did you get her? Most hacheries vaccinate for that, and then maybe I’d look for a different disease. Good idea on separating her from the flock! Keep an eye on the others and separate them too if they have symptoms.

I got her from an Amish auction about 3-4 months ago. I am unsure on her age or if she had been vaccinated.

Most chicks are not vaccinated for Mareks by hatcheries unless it is purchased, and I’m sure the Amish don’t vaccinate. Mareks can be common at this age, but your state vet could perform a necropsy to look for Mareks if you los her. Below is a list of state vets to contact if you need a necropsy:
