Suddenly Stopped Laying?

@janz70

It is normal for older birds to stop laying in the autumn and not start again until the days start getting longer. Pullets will usually lay through their first winter and then moult the following late summer autumn. I find that they come back into lay in December that second year but the following years it takes longer. My girls are starting to redden up in the comb now and a couple of the 2year olds have just started back up. This is the first year that I haven't had young pullets coming into lay as the older ones stopped, so I've had a bit of an egg drought for the last couple of months..... totally normal though.

I'm afraid that whilst I know a little about chicken illnesses from experience and doing necropsies, antibiotics and which one to use for what, is not my field.

Unfortunately "retired" battery hens are particularly prone to such ailments as I suspect this may be. Some people have had success treating them with hormone implants but it is expensive and prevents them from ovulating (no more eggs). This stops the problem from getting any worse, but short of risky and even more expensive surgery, there is no way to remove the existing mass inside them.

I could be entirely wrong about the whole thing, so perhaps seek other opinions or do some research yourself before you commit to anything.
Yeah, im definitely not going to do anything rash yet, I'll keep an eye on her and try to make sure she isn't in pain.
I did the personal check and nothing. So the cause of the swelling must be higher up. Bugger.
And No, her comb isn't as plump and red as it could be. It even may have some slight discoloration at one end. Can't believe I didn't notice until now
