Suet bird food blocks

Do chickens like them in the winter? Can you make your own with beef (or other) fat and whole/cracked seeds/grains?

I would think you CAN make them yourself, but the amount of FAT would be an issue for sure, there is a LOT in those blocks.

As kids we used to make bird feeding "sticks" we would mix flour and water to make a paste, and then dip a stick in it, and dip that into bird seeds, let it dry and put it out - perhaps you can come up with something like that, that does not contain a bunch of fat.
