So, i have tried varios forms of treats for my guineas. As young tykes, they really liked the dried mealworms, and also a corn/BOSS bird seed treat, but lately nothing has really made them noticeably happy anymore. Would there be any harm in offering them a commercial grade suet cake, BOSS and suet in a suet cake holder on a chain in their coop? Or any other suet cake from the local feed store? Thank you!

I'm curious what the answer is going to be. I thought about doing this for my chickens but noticed the suet cakes said "for wild birds only" so I haven't.

Nope, no harm at all! Go ahead and give it a shot. Mine don't particularly care for suet - as opposed to my chickens - who love the stuff!! But treats can be funny - what one person's guineas like doesn't necessary mean another's will. Have you tried unsalted peanuts - still in the shell? I have to partially crack the peanuts for them (mine are lazy!! lol) but boy, they sure do love having the extra protein this time of year.

Since Guineas are such (chickens?) when it comes to new things, I decided to hang the suet holder in their coop tonight AFTER I had them locked in for the evening... I will let you know if it is a hit, or a dud. Thanks for the advice on here. this is a wonderful place for questions and support about these crazy birds!

I don't have guineas but I do have peafowl... I got them a suet cake recently from TSC. It had chopped peanuts and other things in it. They really loved it! I just put the suet in one of their food dishes and they were all pecking at it. I need to get them another one sometime. I think birds need something fun to do with all of this gloomy winter weather.

Suet cake update....they havent touched it. I had used a regular bird suet with BOSS in it. Its been untoucehed for over a week. Oh well, still trying to find something that they go wild for. Either they are picky, or too full. Lol

Once again I don't have experience with Guineas, but I have a page that lists all of the treats my peafowl love if you want to check it out and see if your guineas might like the same treats: http://www.bamboopeacock.com/Treats_for_Peafowl.html

My peafowl can be very picky. I got them some crickets from the bait store and they wouldn't eat them, but go out and catch grasshoppers for them and they go wild for them!
