Suffolk County Long Island family looking to start a small flock.

I (Tom) had chickens growing up and looking to give my kids some responsibility, pets and the fresh eggs are a big help. Any advice or ideas would be great. Thanks we are looking to buy 6 hens and haven't decided on a coop.
