Sugar bad for chicken?

If I gave my chickens left-over oatmeal that had been sweetened with brown sugar, would that be a bad thing?

No, if it was just some leftovers they will be just fine!!
Make sure you dont get them started with a sweet tooth LOL!!

Thanks! I would never give them Sour-punch straws or sweettarts. But I wouldn't put it past mykids!!

I hope its ok. I usually give my chicks a little sugar water if they arrive after a bad trip from the hatchery.

If it's just an occasional thing, I think it's fine.
I do try to avoid giving them much of anything that's had alot of butter/margarine, sugar or salt added to it.
It's not good for us, why should it be okay for chickens?

On cold nights my girls get a bowl of warm grits and milk with just a little sugar and cinnamon.
If I forget the sugar and cinnamon they get sassy-BA-Gaaawk....

I have a dog that LOVES marshmellows but one day while I accidentally dropped a handful here came the chickens. I was totally over run by them so I pitched a few and man oh man.

Now everytime I come out the door with a bag they are waiting. Little buggers love mini marshmellows. I use it as a once in a blue moon treat. I've taught my dog to sit and lay down using them. HUMMM Wonder if I could get the chickens to sit???

Sugar is bad for everyone, including humans.
If it's just a small leftover once a month it won't do damage but try to not feed your chickens white sugar on a regular basis.
If you have a chicken that needs some energy boost, give them molasses! Molasses is a multi-mineral, multi-vitamin, energy dense supplement. I suggest to replace the very bad white sugar with molasses or honey in all preparations. I banned white sugar from my kitchen ages ago.
