i just started my first coop. I purchased six hens that are supposed to be already laying, but they are a little shy. I will give them about a week to acclimate to their new home. I come home from work and go straight to tell the girls hello. I will be ordering a few chicks to raise soon and I am so looking forward to it.
Give them time, its winter and they’re probably stressed in a new environment so i wouldn’t expect eggs anytime soon. If you have the space you may want to just pick up a few pullets now, they may be ready to lay in the spring/summer.
Chics are fun but a lot of work, so unless you have the time, pullets are a lot easier...
