The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.
They're marvelous. They're about a nurse in WWII-era Britain who somehow falls through a henge and ends up in the 1700's. They've got something for everybody, amazingly researched historical detail, fabulous love story, epic battles, the whole nine yards.

the Harry Potter series (JK Rowling) and the Eragon series (Christopher Paolini)

but then again, i'm still a student so my reading interests are quite different than someone older or younger.

The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author...he is Afghan...wonderful books and the Kite Runner read is so much more than the movie...Amazon has both books...can't think of the author's name and I have loaned my books so I cannot look for it just now...
