I had two chicks hatch two days ago, one is running around standing up straight and the other is just laying he wants to move around I think one of his legs is not working. This morning I woke up to a third baby that seems to be doing the same thing as the "lame" chick :( what could be wrong and how can I fix it? I thought maybe spraddel leg but he keeps it close to his body not straight out. It makes me sad to think I might have to put them down! This is my first try at incubating. I have a momma hatching the same time she's got three and they are all running around the nursery.

Are they from your hens or did you buy eggs? I have always heard a vitamin deficiency in hens can cause leg problems in chicks. Then others say it's wrong humidity in incubator. I'm so sorry, all I know is give them time, love, food and water for now and see how it goes. check humidity level in bator

Well hello...glad to have someone close by in case I REALLY mess things up :( I don't know if I'll try this incubating thing again it's to stressful, and to think I already have 12+ eggs waiting, breakfast anyone!

Haha. I don't know how much I can help. I am pretty new myself. Got adult chickens last year and they have been great. Decided to get babies this year plus some of my hens hatched a few. Making sure the babies are taken care of and stay alive stresses me out some days. I'm afraid to go out of town next week and leave them for my husband to care for.

He likes them but don't check on them as much. lol. I've had 2 die and it is terrible when it happens. I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Good luck with your babies. If I had an incubator, I'd prob have babies everywhere. I'm glad the feed stores have quit selling them. My hubby banned me from there.

I guess we will help each other  your hubby will do fine, he does not do it now cause you're around to do it! They want to keep us happy!!
How many and what kind of chickens do you have? I currently have D'uccles and Silkies.... I NEED some Seramas !! :p
